Red diesel is a fuel mainly used in off-road vehicles and machinery. It's name comes from the red dye applied in order to make it distinct from regular diesel. Red diesel serves as a cost-effective and efficient fuel option for permitted sectors and machinery used in forestry, agriculture, and marine industries.
Red diesel powers heavy machinery in the agricultural sectors and for other sectors that are permitted to use red diesel. Though similar in composition to regular diesel, it is taxed differently, making it more affordable for eligible users.
Red diesel offers several benefits for industries needing to operate heavy machinery and equipment.
New legislation restricted the use of gas oil for certain sectors so as to regulate its usage more strictly in line with environmental and fiscal policies. You can find more information regarding gas oil regulations here.
Although not completely exempt from tax, it is taxed at a lower rate than white diesel found at petrol filling stations. Tax rebates for gas oil use can be made through HMRC using an HO27 form.
If you want to know more about whether red diesel is the fuel for you and your business, or for a personalised quote, get in touch with Your NRG today. Our expert team is always happy to help with any questions you might have.
