Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person's liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
We are committed to continually improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31 May 2023
Your NRG is an independently run, liquid fuel supply and distribution business.
With depots located at Hartlepool, Birtley, Elvington, Lincoln, Thetford, Bedford, Atherstone, Melton Mowbray & Shillington, Your NRG distribute liquid fuels across the whole of the east of England.
Your NRG has an annual turnover over £300,000,000
Members of our supply chain that would need to comply with the Modern Slavery Act are mainly international fuel distributors who would be tier one suppliers and account for over 90% of our total purchases.
Our policies are to mitigate any risk of slavery and human trafficking in the supply chain:-
a) The promotion of fair, open and transparent competition in sourcing (avoidance of unfair, fraudulent, manipulative or coercive sourcing practices)
b) The use of sourcing policies to promote positive socio-economic goals such as equal opportunity and diversity in the supply chain and support for local and small business suppliers.
c) Specification and sourcing of ethically produced inputs, where possible, (drawn from sustainably managed or renewable sources, or manufactured under safe working conditions)
d) Selection, management and development of suppliers in such a way as to promote ethical trading, environmental responsibility and labour standards at all tiers of the supply chain (by pre-qualifying suppliers based on CSR policies, ethical codes, supply chain management; and incentivising, monitoring and developing supplier ethical performance)
e) A commitment to supporting sustainable profit-taking by suppliers (by not squeezing supplier profit margins unfairly) and to ensure that fair prices are paid to suppliers back through the supply chain.
f) Adherence to ethical frameworks and codes of conduct of relevant bodies such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Ethical Trading Initiative or Fair Trade Association.
g) A commitment to compliance with all relevant laws and regulations for consumer, supplier and worker protection.
h) A commitment to pay the UK National living wage to our own staff, and promote this policy throughout the supply chain especially our 1st tier UK suppliers.
i) All formal tenders will include a pre-qualification that all suppliers conform to their responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015
All staff will be required to read, understand and follow the policies of ISO 26000/2010 Guidance on Social Responsibilities, which covers Human Rights, Labour Practices and Fair Operating Practices.
We operate a Whistleblowing Policy, aimed principally at our employees but also available to others working in our supply chains which encourages staff to report any wrongdoing. This extends to human rights violations like Modern Slavery. All reports will be fully investigated by Senior Management and appropriate remedial actions taken.
