A Day in the Life at Your NRG as a Commercial Account Manager
Date Published: 18/03/2025
A day for a Commercial Account Manager at Your NRG is filled with a dynamic mix of customer interactions, strategic account management, and customer-focussed tasks. From managing customer accounts to liaising with the Transport department, their role is pivotal in ensuring seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
Mourning Routine
Our Commercial Account Managers typically start their day by checking their emails for any messages from customers or other team members. This helps them to prioritise their tasks accordingly and plan their approach for the rest of the day. But you can’t forget their morning coffee, which helps fuel their day!
Selling Fuel and Managing Customer Accounts
A significant part of a Commercial Account Manager’s day is dedicated to selling fuel to our commercial customers. We have a diverse cohort of commercial customers, who work in varying industries and have unique fuelling requirements for their operations. Due to this, our Commercial Account Managers must have an in-depth understanding of our customers' needs.
But the work doesn’t stop there! Getting to know customers and their needs is only one part of the job. Commercial Account Managers also work to negotiate prices with customers, ensuring that Your NRG’s products and services meet their expectations, enabling businesses to focus on what matters most.
Managing customer accounts is crucial as it entails establishing and maintaining strong customer relationships, resolving issues promptly, and identifying opportunities to upsell or cross-sell products.
"Building strong relationships with our customers is at the heart of what we do. It's about understanding their needs and delivering solutions that make a real difference." - Your NRG Commercial Account Manager
Customer Calls
Throughout the day, Commercial Account Managers receive or make calls to customers who are looking to place a bulk fuel order, have questions about their order or our services, or require assistance with their order. These interactions are vital for building a rapport with customers, as well as building trust, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Team members always strive to provide clear, concise pricing and information, as well as resolve any issues with efficiency.
Liaising with the Transport and Finance Departments
Coordinating with the Transport department is another essential part of a Commercial Account Manager’s day to ensure that bulk fuel deliveries are made on time and without interruption. This involves confirming delivery schedules (with both the Transport team and customers) and addressing any logistical challenges that may arise. By working closely with the Transport team, Commercial Account Managers can ensure that customer needs are met effectively. This collaboration is integral for maintaining strong customer relationships and delivering an excellent service, from start to finish.
Alongside working closely with the Transport department, Commercial Account Managers also liaise closely with Your NRG’s Finance department. This cross-departmental synergy is important for maintaining the financial health of customer accounts. Regularly engaging with the Finance team, Commercial Account Managers conduct (soft) credit checks on new customers and address credit-related issues. This process and close collaboration help to mitigate any financial risks while also ensuring that Your NRG’s commercial customers receive the appropriate credit terms. This financial oversight is part of their role in managing customer relationships effectively.
Prospecting for New Opportunities
Beyond managing existing accounts and speaking with existing customers, Commercial Account Managers also dedicate their time to prospecting new businesses who may require liquid bulk fuels. This involves researching potential customers, identifying their potential fuel requirements, and reaching out to those businesses to initiate conversations about how Your NRG can support their operations. In doing so, Commercial Account Managers help to drive business growth and expand Your NRG’s presence amongst industries.
"I enjoy the challenge of identifying new customers and showing them how we can help them succeed." - Your NRG Commercial Account Manager
Lunch Break
Of course, amidst their busy days, Commercial Account Managers also need a break! Taking some time for lunch and to catch up with colleagues over dinner is critical to properly recharge and refocus for the rest of the day. For those working at our Hartlepool Head Office, there’s even the chance to engage in some games in The NRG Hub!
Afternoon Activities
Afternoons for our Commercial Account Managers are similar to their morning, with an adept focus on follow-up calls, responding to emails, and managing customer accounts. They continue to engage with customers, addressing any new queries or concerns they may have. This ongoing communication and coordination are essential for maintaining strong relationships and excellent service.
End of the Day
As the working day comes to a close, Commercial Account Managers reflect on what they’ve accomplished and plan for the next day ahead of them. Whether it’s preparing for a phone call with a new client or following up on an order, every task is important to maintain Your NRG’s bulk fuel customer service and satisfaction.
Working as a Commercial Account Manager at Your NRG is both challenging and rewarding. It requires a strong blend of sales acumen, customer service skills, and teamwork. With a range of different responsibilities and plates to spin, no two days are the same for our Commercial Account Managers.
